Actavo constructed pedestrian and cycle lanes on the Stillorgan road – a major arterial route into Dublin City Centre.
Scope of works
Construction of cycle lanes from the junction with The Rise across Fosters Avenue to a new cycle and pedestrian entrance to the UCD campus. Realignment of junctions. Installation of new street lighting columns and ducts. Traffic ducting. Relocation and construction of new bus stops. Cold milling and reinstatement of sections of existing Asphalt carriageway.
Key successes
- Delivering the project with minimum impact to traffic and pedestrians.
- Completing the project with no impact to nearby existing high-pressure gas mains and high voltage underground ESB cables.
Solutions to challenges
It was a challenging project as it was on a heavily trafficked, major arterial route into Dublin City Centre. Actavo developed and submitted traffic management plans before the job started to ensure minimum impact to normal operations, including consultation with Dublin Bus.
The project was near gas mains and electricity cables. Actavo held regular meetings with the Local Authority and set up on-site attendances by utilities personnel to monitor works and ensure the safe delivery of the project.
Benefits to client
- High quality and safe installation of a new cycle and pedestrian route.
- Improving safe foot and cycle path usage for people in the area.
