Actavo Events designed, installed and removed various event infrastructure and grandstands with tiered seating for the North West 200 Race Week in Portrush and Portstewart. The North West 200 is a 14 kilometre motorcycle road race and is Northern Ireland’s largest outdoor sporting event annually, attracting over 150,000 spectators.
Scope of works
Actavo provided 5 seating grandstands holding nearly 4,000 seats, 38 flag marshal towers across the route, 1 team signalling platform, barriers, flagpoles, relevant hire of scaffolding tubes, 1 loading dock and other relevant event infrastructure. The grandstand located at the Start line also featured a raised platform to allow for disabled viewing.
The five grandstands were located in the following areas along the race route: the Start line, Competitor Paddock, York Corner, Juniper Hill and the Metropole Corner.
Services delivered
Actavo provided a dedicated project manager who acted as client liaison on site, as well as all required labour for infrastructure installation. The team put a contingency plan in place that covered staff, vehicles and infrastructure to accommodate any unforeseen circumstances. Actavo also took part in a health and safety audit on site, as well as attending daily health and safety meetings to ensure that this was a priority, in line with our core value, Live Safety.
Solutions to challenges
The race took place in a coastal area of Northern Ireland with strong North Atlantic winds. Therefore, Actavo Events installed all infrastructure when local weather conditions were optimum.
The client requested a change in the seating configuration as the start date of the event approached. Actavo Events altered the quantities of seating across each of the five grandstands along the route.
Benefits to client
The Actavo Events team was on site for the duration of race week, including qualifying races, to cater for any alterations needed as the event was underway.
Despite adverse weather conditions, the team completed all works as scheduled by the client.
