Actavo provided crowd control barriers and race structures along the 26-mile Dublin Marathon course. The team deployed 60 site management and event crew for the largest marathon in the country, attended by over 22,500 people in 2023.

Scope of works

Actavo was responsible for the supply, install and derig of over 6,000 crowd control barriers (42km+), an outdoor covered VIP seating area and VIP platform on wheels, the Start and Finish gantry, traffic barriers, including massguard system, waterfill barriers, HVM and VMS. The team also installed First Aid spotter towers, a tiered media platform on wheels, and camera and winner podiums. 

Key successes

Strict timelines met
 A strict de-rig and removal schedule and timeline was set by An Garda Síochána and Dublin City Council in order to reopen the main roads as quickly as possible. Actavo removed all stock from the course route within four hours of the marathon finishing.

Healt & Safety
Work began at 3am when traffic was calm and there were less people in the streets. Actavo split the crew in two to make sure teams were working less hours during the night. 

Solutions to challenges

  • The tight turnaround meant Actavo was removing barriers while participants walking the marathon were still on the course. Actavo made sure there were enough supervisors along the course to ensure the health and safety of remaining participants during derig and removal.
  • The team was trained on how to load low loaders, making install and derig faster and safer than previously used forklifts.
