Ennis Educate Together National School required the provision of one classroom, as well as two special educational needs classrooms and associated works. The project was part of a request from the Department of Education to provide urgently needed teaching spaces nationally.
Scope of works
The new 4 module building consists of 3 classrooms and two WCs. Onsite civil works including connection to electrical and water services, and the addition of an external water tap.
Key successes
- Actavo Modular met each deadline for the phased handover of the new building.
- With health & safety being a primary focus, there were zero LTIs.
Solutions to challenges
A rotted tree was identified during the excavation process. Actavo Modular removed the tree so it would not pose a future risk to the new building. As a precautionary measure, a potentially hazardous second tree was also tested before deciding if any further action was needed.
The polytunnel on site required a re-installation. Actavo Modular removed the existing tunnel and reinstalled it at the agreed new location. This process also involved the replacement of damaged sheeting. When reinstating the polytunnel, the team were respectful of the school’s request to ensure weed prevention methods were followed.
The access road needed to be widened to cater for the new modular unit being delivered to site. When works were complete, Actavo Modular carried out civils works to return the road to its original condition.
The existing disability parking on site was no longer suitable with the addition of the new building. The team actioned relocating the disability parking area to a more suitable location in the school grounds.
Tar installed to patch existing yard had not been sealed. The possible adverse consequences of supplying liquid tar were highlighted to the school, and the Actavo team followed up with sealing the tar.
Benefits to client
The works completed on the school has developed a modern state of the art learning environment for students of Ennis ETNS, particularly those with additional needs.
Throughout this project, it became apparent at an early stage that good communication and cooperation between Actavo and the school was essential in order to progress the works required. Any talking points were discussed professionally and were always solution focused and dealt with in a positive manner. This made the completion of this project a very pleasant experience for the school. The team were always on hand and more importantly on task whenever the school had a query. All concerns were listened to respectfully and actioned when needed. The site manager also communicated really well with any other workers on site. Instructions given were followed and the school never needed to explain anything to any visiting sub-contractors - a clear indicator that they had received necessary information in advance of their visit to our site. The standards that the team adhered to throughout this project are a testament to Actavo and I’d be happy to vouch for their professionalism and workmanship.
