Key successes
A large pedestrian and cycle improvement scheme was completed along the Rock Road from its junction with Booterstown Avenue to its junction with Trimleston Avenue. Rock Road is a main arterial route and is heavily trafficked. Actavo implemented traffic management set ups that ensured minimal disruption to the area.
A large €500k+ project in Sallynoggin consisted of the upgrade of laneways in the Pearse Drive area with new rain gardens, drainage and tabletop ramps installed. The project was well received by the local community “Love our Laneways” group.
Actavo won the ‘Civil Construction Project of the Year’ award in 2023 for Rock Road pedestrian and cycle improvement scheme. The project featured a number of innovations including the development of a new Dutch Entry Kerb system (the first of its kind in Ireland) which provides a continuous crossing facility that gives priority to pedestrians in favour of vehicles, and the installation of several landscaped rain gardens, reducing water pollution and flooding by naturally absorbing stormwater runoff and conserving water by being self-irrigated.
Solutions to challenges
Many of the projects were carried out in extremely busy urban locations. Actavo provided complex traffic safety and management systems through a sequence of phases at controlled junctions that required continual coordination with traffic operators for traffic light switch outs with junctions controlled by TM operatives in accordance with approved TMP’s and the relocation of existing traffic signals into temporary plinths to facilitate the works.
The GeoPal Workflow App was specifically adapted for this project with all individual task orders imported and assigned to the crews. This helped end-to-end project management and provided weekly reports confirming quality and conformance to specification and progress.
Benefits to client
Multiple minor and major mobility schemes completed in a professional manner with weekly reports confirming progress and quality.
Actavo’s ability to anticipate and address challenges saved valuable time and resources, ensuring the projects remained on track.
