Actavo was contracted by the Department of Education to provide an Educate Together Secondary School to meet the demand for a new education facility for the growing town of Drogheda. Actavo Modular manufactured and installed seven steel-framed modular buildings to meet the full project requirements.
Scope of works
Actavo Modular was contracted to provide a full turnkey service across all service disciplines, including civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical for seven individual buildings on the school campus.

Bespoke classrooms include a Home-Economics kitchen, Science laboratory, Woodwork room and a dedicated sensory room for students with additional needs.
Exterior works included outdoor playing facilities and bike shelters for students and staff.
Onsite civil works consisted of bulk excavation works, development of a public/link road to the school, foul, storm, watermain, electrical underground services, tarmac, block paving and concrete surfacing, along-with fencing and gates.
The building scope consisted of:
- 5 x Type 2 two-storey buildings
- 1 x Type 3 two-storey building
- 1 x Type 8 single storey building
The project took place over 3 phases:
- Phase 1: July 2022 - September 2022

- Phase 3: May 2023 - August 2023
Solutions to challenges
- The construction of the new school buildings project in a live school environment, so works were completed with minimal disruption to the school.
- The only delivery route to the school was undergoing major upgrade works at the same time as this project was underway. Actavo Modular therefore had to utilise a limited number of opportunities to obtain permits for module deliveries to site.
- Due to the factors mentioned above, traffic management plans were critical and constantly updated.
- The construction of the public link road to the school, from the main road was a challenge and involved co-ordination works with another contractor to deliver the scope works that both contractors were tasked with.
- Phase 1 required Actavo to deliver 3 school buildings in an 8 week period during the Summer months, requiring the team to work to tight deadlines.
Benefits to client
- Actavo Modular provided a much needed modern educational campus to the growing town of Drogheda to meet the September deadline for returning to school.
- The development of a pedestrian access routes to the school encourages students and staff to choose more sustainable modes of transport where possible.
- The level of specialist and practical rooms on this project is significant and offers a multitude of learning paths for the students.
- The A3 BER rating on all Actavo Modular school buildings offers a warm and comfortable teaching environment for students and staff
