Education – Tonbridge Grammar School

Actavo’s Building Solutions team was appointed following a recommendation by AA Projects for the design & build of a bespoke modular school building allocated as a new sixth form block for Tonbridge Grammar School over a dormant swimming pool site. The 880m2 building was handed over for the new term in September 2015. The building was designed by Bond Bryan Architects and incorporates standing seam zinc cladding and roof system. The front elevation is a full glazed curtain walling system allowing natural light into the classroom and study area.

Our Building Solutions team provided a full turnkey package for this project, including all the piling, groundworks, external landscaping and services. The M & E design incorporates natural ventilation through a breathing buildingssSystem and In-tek roof vents. Ceiling mounted radiant panels provide heating throughout and concrete floors provide a solid feel and improved acoustic performance.

”Actavo’s anticipation in how best to respond to our needs and creativity were key factors in our decision. From the outset they understood the schools ethos with health and safety always in mind. We had not really considered modular build but the 3D animation changed our minds, it provided the extra insight which helped us see beyond bricks and mortar and proved that Actavo not only understood but also shared our vision.”
