Actavo Modular provided a Special Educational Needs unit to an existing school environment in Swords, Co. Dublin, comprising of 3 modules.
Scope of works / Services delivered
The scope of works included site demolition, civils works, temporary works and traffic management, access control and M&E works including testing and commissioning.
Actavo Modular also provided full internal fit out and the installation of an external soft play area.
Solutions to challenges
Lifting plan
Due to the urban location of the school, a complex lifting plan was implemented to deliver the modules. Actavo Modular used a twin crane lift setup to deliver the modules within one day. This was linked to the existing health and safety protocols on site. The lift took place on a Saturday to ensure minimum disruption for the live school environment.
Site access
Actavo Modular shared access to the site with the existing staff and students. Actavo Modular safely managed segregation between both sites.
Utilities
To facilitate the new modular building, existing utilities on site had to be relocated, including the diversion of a 100mm gas main around the new building which was running in the middle of the new foundations. Actavo Modular coordinated with the relevant utility providers to complete the works seamlessly and outside regular school hours.
Benefits to client
The completed modular education facility provides a bespoke learning environment for students with Special Educational Needs.
Up to 90% of the modular building was completed offsite in Actavo’s manufacturing facility, helping to minimise disruption at the school. The project highlights the benefits of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including controlled offsite manufacturing, efficient onsite installation and rapid modular building delivery.
