Pfizer is one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, operating highly regulated manufacturing facilities in Ireland that play a critical role in the production of medicines and vaccines for global markets. To support ongoing construction, maintenance, shutdowns and expansion projects, Pfizer requires safe, reliable and efficient access solutions that meet the highest standards of safety, compliance and operational excellence.
Actavo Industrial Scaffolding partners with Pfizer to deliver specialist and bespoke access solutions that enable critical works to be completed safely and efficiently within live environments.
The Challenge
Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities present a uniquely complex operating environment. Projects must be delivered while maintaining stringent health, safety and quality standards, often within fully operational production facilities.
At Pfizer facilities, scaffolding requirements range from routine maintenance activities to large-scale capital investment projects. On one major Pfizer project, Actavo managed more than 3,000 scaffold structures, with approximately 650 to 700 scaffolds standing simultaneously across the site. Every scaffold required regular inspections, detailed compliance records and complete traceability throughout its lifecycle.
Key challenges included:
- Working within highly regulated pharmaceutical environments.
- Managing large volumes of scaffold inspections and documentation.
- Ensuring full compliance with safety and client requirements.
- Delivering projects without impacting ongoing manufacturing operations.
- Coordinating multiple work fronts across large-scale construction and maintenance programmes.
The Solution
Actavo deployed dedicated industrial scaffolding teams to support Pfizer's operational and project delivery requirements. Leveraging extensive pharmaceutical sector experience, Actavo designed, erected, inspected and maintained complex scaffold structures tailored to the specific needs of the site.
To enhance safety, efficiency and transparency, Actavo also used their digital scaffold management system that provided real-time visibility of scaffold status, inspections, requests and handover documentation.
