Actavo was appointed by ESB Networks as one of eight framework contractors responsible for the delivery of critical overhead line infrastructure works across the South Central Region of Ireland. The programme encompassed the construction, maintenance, inspection, upgrade, and continuity reinforcement of the Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) distribution network serving homes, businesses, farms, and essential public services. Operating under ESB Networks' rigorous safety and quality governance requirements, Actavo delivered a diverse portfolio of works aimed at improving network reliability, enhancing public safety, and supporting the growing electricity demands of communities across Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, and surrounding areas.
Scope of Works
LV/MV Overhead Line Construction and Upgrades
Actavo delivered construction and upgrade works on ESB Networks' overhead distribution infrastructure, including:
- Replacement and reinforcement of ageing pole infrastructure
- Installation of new overhead line assets
- Network refurbishment and capacity enhancement works
- Pole and conductor replacements
- Compliance-driven asset upgrades
- Emergency response and fault restoration services
All works were completed in strict accordance with ESB Networks standards and governance procedures.
Capital Inspection Programme (CIP) Construction Works
Following network inspections, Actavo undertook remediation and upgrade works identified through ESB Networks' Capital Inspection Programme.
Programme locations included:
- Fermoy
- Cork City
- Newcastlewest
- Limerick
These works focused on replacing deteriorated assets, mitigating network risk, and ensuring continued compliance with safety and operational standards.
MV/LV Overhead Service Works
Actavo provided ongoing maintenance and service support across a wide geographical area, delivering planned and reactive works on the distribution network.
Operational locations included:
- Fermoy
- Cork City
- Newcastlewest
- Thurles
Services included network repairs, customer connections, asset replacement programmes, and emergency restoration activities designed to maintain network performance and reliability.
Key successes:
Actavo holds a strong safety record with ESB Networks, and was awarded Platinum Level in the ESB Annual Contractor Safety Grading for 2025.
Actavo has participated in the newly developed Overhead Lines Technician Apprenticeship 2026, supporting the next generation of overhead lineworkers.
