We are proud to have sponsored Spinal Injuries Ireland (SII) in their awareness programme, ‘A Day in My Wheels’, held at our client site in Leixlip, Co. Kildare. SII provides dedicated support services to over 2,500 people living with spinal cord injuries and their 20,000 family members in Ireland.
The event aimed to generate awareness of working at height safely and replicate the realities of wheelchair use and in a very interactive way. Oisín Fahy and Bairbre Sullivan from SII spoke about the profound impact a spinal injury has on individuals and their families. Lester Cassidy, a SII Ambassador, delivered a powerful and insightful speech on how his life changed after sustaining a spinal injury while working at height.
Following this, the SII team led a wheelchair skills session where Actavo team members navigated an obstacle course, demonstrating the daily physical challenges wheelchair users face, such as steep inclines and sharp corners.

Having experienced a spinal injury from sport years ago, this event really hit home for myself and all attendees. We will continue to foster a culture of health and safety on site and take all precautions necessary to avoid these life-changing injuries.

It was a pleasure for us at Spinal Injuries Ireland to speak with the Actavo Team. We aim to break that autopilot thinking when it comes to health and safety, while also creating new allies in removing barriers to accessibly for our service users. It was clear the team on-site, having heard the stories and challenges and experiencing the wheelchair skills session, will be safer at work and will be more thoughtful in their day to day lives. This is a huge win for us and our service users.
