Providing Insulation, Passive Fire Protection, Scaffold and Protective Coatings services on a project to replace Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal’s control system which utilised Freon gas with a new control system that used Propane gas. The terminal, which ceased production in 2018, is situated in Lincolnshire, England.
Scope of works
The initial scope of works consisted of thermal insulation to c.4,000lm of carbon steel pipework, c.700lm of stainless-steel pipework and c.300m2 of equipment along with c.1,600m2 of passive fire protection to structural steelwork and equipment supports. The insulation specifications and materials were a mix of Acoustic (Armacell), Cold Conservation (Foamglas), Heat Conservation (Rockwool) and Personnel Protection (Mesh Guards) whilst the specified hydrocarbon fire rated PFP material was Promat Fendolite MII.
Actavo was contracted for the Thermal Insulation and PFP work packages. Due to our good work, the client also engaged with Actavo for the supply of scaffolding and protective coatings services to support the project in the latter stages.
Through our ability to absorb the growth in scope and provide additional services, Actavo contributed to the success of the project in meeting the deadline that ConocoPhillips had been given by the UK Government.
Solutions to challenges
Actavo were able to provide the site resources, technical back up and material supply required to accommodate a growth in scope of over 150% whilst maintaining the project end date which had to be met to comply the UK Government’s deadline for the removal of CFCs from the plant.
To support the Project’s end date, Actavo provided scaffolding and protective coatings resources and management.
Benefits to Clients
The completion of the Freon Replacement Project meant that the site and its owner were compliant with global and UK legislation on the banning of CFCs.
