Building

Healthcare – St James’s Hospital

Actavo | Building Solutions was appointed by St James Hospital (HSE) to design and build a two storey doctors on call accommodation block with link corridor. Project works took place during April and May ready for occupation and handover at the end of May. The modular hospital accommodation consisted of twenty modules making up twenty-two En-suite Bedrooms, Canteen Area, PC Room, Games Room, TV Room and Social Area.

The block was elevated through use of a structural steel frame, which enabled a link corridor to join the existing building on the second floor as requested by the client. The area underneath the building has been transformed into a gardened area for the patients to use as required.

The hospital block was delivered and installed just twenty weeks from receipt of order as the client required a tight deadline with minimal disruption to existing patients. The site itself posed many challenges, in particular the tight access which involved delivery of modules through a constricted archway and over the existing four storey hospital. The external of the modular hospital building was finished in a green render and metal Kingspan architectural panel to help blend the building into the surroundings. A secure controlled access system has been installed to ensure security throughout the building.

"We were satisfied that Actavo had a clear understanding of the strict requirements of working within a live hospital environment. Actavo and St. James Hospital agreed a comprehensive risk management plan tailored to the physical and environmental aspects of this confined hospital campus. By keeping us informed in advance of project activities, it enabled us to manage our operations with minimal disruption."
