Aurora Telecom

Actavo was the sole network build service provider to Aurora Telecom for the construction of a 160km fibre network connecting Ennis in Co. Clare with Cork city, a 12km 144-core Metropolitan Area Network in Shannon Co. Clare and the construction of 2 PoP sites.

Activities included:
  • Supply of Fibre Optic Cable (168F) and (192F)
  • Installation, testing and commission of cable in a single sub-duct using blown fibre and fibre pulling methods
  • Remedial works on the duct and sub-duct network
  • Construction of additional chambers on the duct network
  • Installation of Points of Presence (POPs) at 2 green field sites and associated civil works
  • The construction of Interconnections with the Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) in Limerick, Charleville and Cork
  • Scheme configuration of the Fibre Network in Shannon utilising existing ducting infrastructure and construction of additional inspection chambers
  • Testing and commissioning of systems and provision of detailed records

As a result of our excellent performance on this contract, we were appointed as Aurora’s sole provider of telecommunications civil works in Ireland. This framework will primarily involve telecom duct network construction and maintenance, sub-duct insertion into abandoned cast iron gas mains and reinstatements.

The first job in the framework will involve the installation of a 24km telecoms duct between Coolturk and Killala in Co. Mayo. Directional drilling and mole ploughing will be used to install 2 x 32mm sub-ducts.
