Gordon Brown Outdoor Educational Centre

Actavo are delighted with appointment for new accommodation block.

Actavo | Building Solutions are proud to have won a design and build contract to provide a 228m2 modular sleeping accommodation building for the Gordon Brown Outdoor Educational Centre in Rotherwick, Hampshire.

Built in a 25-acre conservation area and benefiting from a wealth of natural charms the facility is designed to provide children from central London with a lifelong rural experience. Named after a renowned scientist from Brent, the Gordon Brown Centre is operated by Brent Council, it provides children with the support of a team of dedicated staff, with a personalised visit built around their requirements.

The new accommodation block will replace the existing outdated facility which is to be demolished following construction. The new building will provide a standalone sleeping provision to house up to 60 children whilst they attend the centre and is made up of two dormitory rooms with WC’s, shower rooms, four staff sleeping rooms and a reception area.

The client chose offsite construction to significantly reduce disruption to the surrounding conservation area and to ensure a speedy build programme of just 8 weeks. The 10 modules will arrive on site in autumn and the new building will open for January 2018.

Rob Humphrey, Sales Manager of principal contractor Actavo | Building Solutions, said, “We are delighted to be building this wonderful new accommodation block which will provide an essential upgrade to the facilities at the Gordon Brown Centre. We will be employing the latest advances in design and offsite construction to create a spacious, bright and well ventilated dormitory space. Providing the new facility will allow both children and staff to get a great night’s sleep, after a day of fun activities. Working on projects such as this gives our team great fulfilment knowing that they are not only providing an excellent facility for young children but also a legacy for those less privileged who do not have the luxury of the countryside.”
