Actavo Showcases Smart Metering At Scottish Parliament Event

A delegation from Actavo | Network & In-Home Division participated in a Smart Metering showcase held yesterday (Wednesday, September 26th) in the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh.

The Smart Metering exhibit was part of the ‘Colleges – Delivering Skilled and Successful Learners’ parliamentary event arranged by Colleges Scotland to highlight innovation and skills in Scotland’s college sector and the valuable contribution that colleges make to individuals, communities and the economy.

Hosted by Liz Smith MSP (MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, member of the Education and Skills Committee, Convener of the parliament’s Cross-Party Group on Colleges and Universities and member of the parliament’s Cross-Party Group on Science and Technology), the event was attended by a wide range of educational stakeholders, members of parliament, and featured a keynote address by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney MSP.

The occasion was an opportunity for Actavo to demonstrate its ground-breaking partnership with South Lanarkshire College, Fife College and City of Glasgow College, in providing industry-led smart meter training to meet the needs of energy suppliers.

With the three colleges, Actavo has been working closely with Energy Skills Partnership (a collaboration of Scotland’s colleges and industry partners to boost the country’s capacity to deliver the right skills for the energy, engineering and construction sectors to meet industry demand) to establish new training facilities to help meet the UK Government’s target of installing a Smart Meter in every home by 2020.

The Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills took time to engage with the Actavo team, and was interested in the nature and scale of our unique partnership with the colleges, in what smart metering installation entailed, and in the jobs that Actavo has created across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fife and surrounding regions.

Actavo’s Smart Metering Delegation (pictured directly below) comprised Ronan Power (Mobilisation Manager), John Hamilton, Alan Findlay and Stephen Cameron (all Smart Metering Installers) and Gavin Sass (Head of Smart Metering, North).
