Corporate Social Responsibility

Our Communities Actively participating in Corporate Social Responsibility is at the core of one of our values, Thorough Decency, and is ingrained in how we operate as an organisation every day. We believe it is crucial to invest and to give back to the communities in which we live, work and operate each day. As an organisation of our size, and with our widespread geographical footprint, we recognise the opportunity we have to make a real impact in the world. Actavo’s CSR activity has helped countless communities and charitable organisations and will continue to do so as we expand into new markets and geographies.
Business in the Community  Actavo is delighted to be a Strategic Partner with Business in the Community in Ireland, which is the network for responsible business. It is working with Actavo on our sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with a view to Actavo gaining the "Business Working Responsibly Mark", which is Ireland's only certified standard for sustainability and CSR and audited by the NSAI and based on ISO 26000. As a business, Actavo has always played an active role with various CSR initiatives and, has always placed Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) at the forefront of its operations.
Future Focus Actavo welcomed students from St Mark’s Community School in Tallaght and Our Lady of Mercy, Drimnagh who came in to take part in a ‘Future Focus’ event in conjunction with the Iris O’Brien Foundation, which works with various schools across Dublin, linking businesses to students.
The location of the event was our training centre in Dunboyne where we set up four interactive stations – Fibre, Work at Height, The Plug-in Challenge and Smart Home. Each team spent time on each station learning about each of these areas and got to connect fibre, change a plug and learn all about ladder safety. Twenty students in total attended the event along with their School Representatives. Following the interactive stations, we had a number of people from across Actavo talk a little about their career journeys which was informative, interesting and very inspiring. A special thanks to all who contributed on the day.
Christmas 2019 #givesomethingback Programme During the month of December 2019, Actavo led a CSR Programme across all of its locations in the UK, Ireland and the USA. This Programme, "#givesomethingback" focused on two core areas - supporting homeless communities in the vicinity of our operations and also children's charities. Furthermore we raised €2,000 for The Samaritans in England and Ireland, and Glasgow City Mission in Scotland. We also collected a high number of clothing items for the homeless charities, which include Peter McVerry, Glasgow City Mission, The Violence Reduction Unit and, in the USA, The Don Bosco Centre. And, the final part of this Programme was the 'Giving Tree' wherein staff purchased Christmas presents for Children through St. Vincent de Paul, Barnados Easterhouse and the Don Bosco Centre.
Helping Haiti Month Actavo’s ‘Helping Haiti Month’ (March 2017) generated significant awareness and support for the Haven Partnership, a charity which provides food, shelter and education to the people of Haiti. Over €7,300 was raised by Actavo staff across Ireland through bake sales, raffles, sweepstakes, makeup masterclasses, busking sessions, jersey days and treasure hunts. These fundraising events took place against the backdrop of ‘Rally For Haiti’, which saw Haven Ambassador, Ronnie Foreman – a former Championship rally driver – taking to highways and byways on an epic, five-day journey around the entire island of Ireland. Rally for Haiti commemorated the six-month anniversary of Hurricane Matthew, which devastated Haiti in October 2016.

‘On Your Bike’ Annual Cycle Event In 2016 we hosted our first Cycle Event, which came out of our ‘Bright Ideas’ Programme. This involved three different routes for avid cyclists – 10km, 55km and 100km. It has now become a much talked about event with plans already underway for 2017’s cycle. In 2016, our chosen charity was Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.
Cancer Fund for Children, Northern Ireland We worked closely with this fantastic charity, which provides practical, emotional and financial support to families with children aged 0-24 affected by cancer. The charity offers free therapeutic short breaks at its incredible Daisy Lodge facility in Newcastle and Pine & Birch Cottages in Coleraine to families from all over the island of Ireland. We have been involved in numerous fundraising and time giving activities with the Cancer Fund for Children. In 2014, our Network and In-home Division supplied and fitted new TVs throughout the Daisy Lodge facility. We also entered numerous teams into the Hell & Back event in order to raise funds for this very worthy charity.
Bring Back Days In 2014 we launched our ‘Bring Back Day’ wherein staff were encouraged to bring in any unwanted clothing and household items and donate to Enable Ireland or Cancer Research UK. We collected over 350 bags of items and this has now become an annual event.
